Tower is a magazine of student journalism based at the University of Birmingham. The work you’ll find in the first two volumes is all based on students’ participation in “Media in Practice,” a second-year module available across the College of Arts and Law. But the magazine is growing, and we’re open to submissions from anyone who is part of the university’s community, staff and student alike. Just get in touch via our contact page.

Our focus is on longer-form journalism that doesn’t just follow the news cycle. Tower provides a space to tell thoughtful non-fiction stories and investigate problems in depth. Pieces from the first two volumes include an investigation into Scottish salmon-fishing, a profile of an army reservist who also happens to be a pole-dancer, a look at Birmingham’s burgeoning rave scene, and a cuddly story about dogs who dig for human remains.

We’re grateful to have received financial support from the University of Birmingham’s College of Arts and Law. The project is not-for-profit, and editorially independent from the University of Birmingham. The views in our articles do not represent those of anyone but their authors.
